PLANNING YOUR DECK

If you have an idea of how you want your deck to look, then plan it out on the grid that we provide below. Download the grid from the page. On this plan, mark where you require steps and railings, where the deck joins your property and the dimensions. You can calculate the area by counting how many whole and part squares are covered. This will enable you to estimate what timber you will need.

Remember to mark which direction you want to lay the decking. Joists should run in the opposite direction to the decking.
